His most important teacher was Hans Michael Beuerle (choral conducting). Other important artistic experiences for him took place under the guidance of Solti, Sinopoli, Chailly, Bertini, Inbal, Harnoncourt, Gielen, Penderecki, Ericson.
Since 1980 he is the conductor of STUDIO VOCALE KARLSRUHE (several international prestigious awards won, invitations to festivals in Europe, the Americas and Asia, several productions for radio and television, many CD’s produced).

Since 1987 he is the conductor of the „Figuralchor Offenburg“, an oratorio choir. With this choir he performed not only the famous oratorios, but also such not well known, from baroque to the 20th century.
Since 2006 he is the conductor of the French chamber choir „Ensemble Vocale Allegro“ in Strasbourg.
From 1989 to 1996 he taught conducting at the conservatory Frankfurt/Main, from 1992 to 1995 he taught conducting at the conservatory „Franz Liszt“ in Weimar.

conduct provincial and state honour choirs on twenty-nine occasions and he has presented workshops in North America and beyond. Notable appearances include adjudicating the Tampere International Festival in Finland and conducting the Ellison Canadian Honour Choir nine times since its inception. He has adjudicated both the Choral Canada National Competition for Amateur Canadian Choirs and the Kathaumixw International Choir Festival (2014, 2016, 2023, 2025). Under his direction, Korora was the winner of both the 2015 CBC National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs and both the 2015 and 2016 Canadian National Music Competition.  In the summer of 2019, Korora was invited to perform at the IFCM World Choral Expo in Portugal, where they represented Canada on the world stage.  Also in 2019, Korora was featured on an episode of CTV’s “The Amazing Race Canada”.  This season Korora is thrilled to be performing with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 13 concerts.

Scott has a passion for music from southern Africa, and he has been invited to work with choirs in South Africa and Namibia on numerous occasions. In 2008–2009, Scott was on sabbatical in Namibia, where he worked with the Mascato Youth Choir and many other choirs in southern Africa. Scott’s passion for innovative and unique choral music experiences has shaped the direction of the Korora Choir Association. In February 2023 he conducted the ISSEA Mass Choir in Johannesburg South Africa featuring international schools from across the African continent.

This fall he will conduct the Nova Scotia Youth Choir for the second time in his career.  He will also adjudicate Choralfest Manitoba, The Comox Choral Festival, The Ontario Vocal Festival and the Hong Kong International Music Festival this year.  Scott will return to conduct the BC Youth Choir for the second time next spring as well at the Ellison Canadian Honour Choir for the tenth time.   Both the Ellison Choir and Korora will be traveling to Italy in July 2026 to participate in the Lake Garda Estate International Festival.

Scott is a longtime member of the advisory committee for the Canadian Rocky Mountain Music Festival and the Edmonton and Whistler Cantando Festivals.  He has also served on many other community boards and advisory councils

Scott was awarded Choir Alberta’s top honour, the Richard S. Eaton Award, in 2015. He also received Edmonton’s Salute to Excellence award in 2016. He has also been awarded the Syncrude Award for Innovative Direction.

Kreuzchor Dresden, of which he was a member for eight years (1969-1977). After that he studied choir and orchestra conducting at the Franz Liszt Music School Weimar (Thuringia). Furthermore, he attended international conducting courses with Helmuth Rilling in Germany and the USA. In 1984 Achim Zimmermann became the chorusmaster of the Suhl Philharmonic Orchestra (Thuringia) and the artistic director of the Singakademie Suhl.
In 1989 the Berliner Singakademie elected him chorusmaster and artistic director as successor to Dietrich Knothe.The focus of his work with the choir is the music in the tradition of J. S. Bach and F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy as well as the main symphonic and a-cappella choral literature of the 20th century. In addition to the big choir Achim Zimmermann also founded the Berliner Singakademie Chamber Choir which especially concentrates on a-cappella music. From 1991 to 2001 Achim Zimmermann taught choir conducting at the Hanns Eisler Music School Berlin. Since January 2002, in addition to his work with the Berliner Singakademie, Achim Zimmermann has been the artistic and musical director of the Bach Choir and the Bach Collegium Berlin, based at the Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church) in the very heart of Berlin City. With these ensembles he regularly plays Bach‘s Church Cantatas during the service every fortnight.

He was formerly teacher of organ at the Malmö Academy of Music and conductur of Scania Vocal Ensemble. Since 1999, Björn Stoltz work as conductor and artistic director of Carlshamn Chamber Choir with which he toured all over Europe.
